Climax Blues Band were formed in 1968 by Colin Cooper who led the band with Pete Haycock through great success and recognition through the 1970s and 1980s, with huge selling albums like FM Live and Gold Plated, hit singles Couldn’t Get It Right and I Love You. George Glover joined the band on keyboards in 1981, Haycock left in 1984 and Lester Hunt came into the re-vamped Climax in 1985, Roy Adams joined in 1987 and Neil Simpson in the early 1990s. Colin Cooper was leading the band with a return to the kind of blues that got the band started before his untimely death in 2008. His wish was the for the band to continue and the recruitment of Graham Dee and Chris ‘Beebe’ Aldridge was made with a view to broadening the Climax sound again and take on new musical influences, move forward creatively which was the Climax Blues Band trademark, rather than rely on the past glories.
The live album Security Alert was released in 2015 and reflected this move forward and the fact that Climax were delighting old and new fans alike throughout the UK and Europe. Roy Wood of ELO and Wizzard fame mixed the live album.
Graham Dee as a focal point is a larger than life front man who holds the audience in the palm of his hand. His amazing vocal range sets him apart from the field and he is quite happy to go walk about in the audience to spread the joy. Chris Aldridge is more laid back and does his talking with his outstanding virtuoso sax playing, easing through soul, jazz and blues influences with great style.
2019 saw the release of the album HANDS OF TIME, the first studio album of original songs since Drastic Steps in 1987.
Hands Of Time went straight to the top of Amazon downloads and to No. 3 in the iTunes Blues chart.
With the 30 year experienced bedrock rhythm unit of Adams and Simpson, Climax veteran George Glover holding everything together from the keyboard stand as band leader, and Les Hunt’s supreme guitar skills transcending all the musical areas Climax find themselves in. A firm statement of intent is given:
Climax Blues Band are very much still proudly flying that flag in 2020, moving forwards, blending the old with the new, and loving making music.

Maggie Bell & Dave Kelly - two stalwarts of the British R&B scene, two great voices, two great reputations.
The on-stage chemistry between Maggie and Dave is immediately apparent, stemming from their love and respect for the music they play as well as the deep knowledge of the genre. Although both coming originally out of blues/soul explosion of the late 1960’s their repertoire is far broader than just that. When they first got together in 2007 they both wished to sing ‘any song that took their fancy’, so their sets include folk, rock, country, gospel as well as blues and soul.
Their stage craft is as would be expected from two professionals with a collective experience of 100 years, but this is no slick show wheeled out with any predictability. Indeed when Maggie and Dave take to the stage ‘anything can happen’ (and often does). One promoter commented "I don’t know how they make such a sound with one guitar and two voices – it sounded like a full band"
Vocally regarded as Britain's answer to Janis Joplin, Maggie Bell, founder member of Stone The Crows and singer of the hit, 'Hold Me' with B. A. Robertson returned to the UK music scene in 2006 and performed live at Led Zeppelin's one off reunion concert at London O2 in November 2007. Bell sang the end credits theme for the late 1970s ITV detective drama Hazell, with lyrics written by Judy Forrest and music by Andy Mackay. Her song "No Mean City", written by Mike Moran, was the theme music to the TV crime drama Taggart.
Dave Kelly is known as Britain's finest blues slide guitarist, as well as being an excellent vocalist. He is joint lead singer in The Blues Band of which he was a founder member with Paul Jones.
Palace Drum Clinic Young Drummer of the Year 2019 Michael MacCourt first played the drums when he was given a toy drum kit at two years old. Since then, he has achieved his Grade 8 and has toured Worcestershire with Reggae, Punk and Jazz bands at venues such as Birmingham Town Hall.
Michael loves to play swing/jazz, latin, funk and fusion, and has been influenced by many drummers, past and present, including Yussef Dayes and Mark Guiliana. Despite enjoying an eclectic mix of genres and the individual styles of particular drummers, Buddy Rich, Anika Nilles and Ulysses Owens Jr. all stand out as particular favourites. Michael is influenced by the styles of many different drummers, using those influences in his own playing.
He is currently part of the Royal Birmingham Junior Conservatoire Jazz department which is greatly developing his skills as a musician and a drummer.
Quill ft Bev Bevan are delighted to be part of this concert commemorating the 40th anniversary of John Bonham’s passing. Quill’s percussionist Bev Bevan, former drummer with the Move, ELO and Black Sabbath was a close friend of John’s . Bev says “Not only was John Bonham the finest rock and roll drummer of his time, he was a good friend of mine and I look back fondly on the great times we had together”
Seven piece Quill consist of Joy Strachan-Brain lead vocals, Kate McWilliam Violin, John Jowitt on bass guitar, Lee T Evans on lead guitar, Abby Brant on keyboards, former Robert Plant drummer Andy Edwards and former Move, ELO and Black Sabbath drummer Bev Bevan on percussion.
Quill’s set will include quirky interpretations of Blackberry Way, Telephone Line, Flowers in the Rain, Heaven and Hell and Don’t Bring me Down , original new songs Grey Goose Call and Elephant in the Room and long standing favourites Say it Ain’t So, The Jig and Nine Mile Camp.
It’s not easy to sum up Quill in a few words, but when you draw on deep diverse musical sources, and when long lifetimes of experience inform your stage craft and presentation, wonderfully interesting things can and do happen.
If you are not already a fan of Quill, you will be after seeing what promises to be a superb night of music.
Del Bromham's STRAY were originally formed by four school friends back in 1966. By 1970 Stray had released their first album simply titled “Stray” and were a hugely popular act on the club scene in the UK and Europe.
They are one of the great British hard rock bands and are still one of the hardest gigging and excellent live acts on the circuit. With festival appearances at the Cambridge Rock Festival, Hard Rock Hell, The New Day Festival , The Giants of Rock Festival in Minehead and the Great British Rock & Blues Festival in Skegness.
With founder member Del Bromham on guitar and vocals, the band mix scintillating guitar playing in a twin guitar format with original member, Pete Dyer, firmly back in the fold. The addition of Pearl Handled Revolver's Simon Rinaldo on keys drives the melodic anthemic such as "All In Your Mind" - covered by the million selling Iron Maiden with whom Stray have toured Europe. Indeed their tours with Rush and Kiss earned them a truly international reputation.
We are delighted to have them join us and play a selection of great songs, which they have recorded over the years.
